"WRAP PARTY"

16 August 2000

Over 100 crew members and actors working on "The Father," a short-film sponsored by the South African pay cable network, M-Net, celebrated the completion of the project with a party at the home of producer Magida (Maji) Abdi in Nefas Silk. The 26-minute drama, which was filmed in and around Addis, is scheduled to be aired in October.

There was Champagne and toasts and cries of "Action!" from tipsy revelers.

Director Ermias Woldeamlak, in black vest, producer Magida Abdi and scriptwriter Manyazewal Endeshaw (not pictured), all Ethiopians, were selected from among dozens of competitors from all over Africa. Pictured next to Maji is cinematographer and Netherlands resident Abraham (didn't catch his father's name), and art director Geta Mekonnen whose day job is as managing director of Tewanney Studio, a graphics design outfit.

Grum Zenebe, pictured with one of his fellow actors, stars in the film which is set in Addis Ababa during "Red Terror" days of the Mengistu era which ended in 1991.
